The M & W Nuts Company is an Agri-Business established in 2016 to add value to Nigeria’s raw exports ultimately to serve both the domestic and export markets. We specialize in the processing of Raw Cashew Nuts into roasted flavored nuts which are packaged and branded as “Gourmet Cashews.”

VISION

To become a West Africa industry leader and household name in the integrated farming, processing and packaging of quality nuts utilizing global industry best practices and commercializing the entire value of the raw nuts.

WHAT WE DO:

We trade, procure and process raw cashew nuts from cashew farmers and local buying agents into premium quality kernels branded as “Gourmet Cashews”.

Key expenditure to date: ~9 million naira (land lease cost, survey, demarcating entire farm land, equipment rental for clearing a section of the farmland (100 ha), seedling, manure, pesticides purchase etc
Expenditure commenced: Q2’2019

Current Project: Cashew plantation

Status: Farmland demarcated, Clearing completed and demonstration farm area planting in progress
Future projects: Increase size of cashew cultivation on leased farmland, green house set up for Tomatoes, bell peppers. Working to see additional funding from AID agencies
Prior farming experience: We have made previous investments as equity partners on some farm projects for mango and maize. We will hire best in class expertise and plug into latest research in developing and maximizing potential of the leased farmland

Benefits of our project to OYO State Government:
SME support: Fabrication of some of our cashew processing equipment such as boiler, dryer, cutting machines etc from fabricator in Saki
Job creation/Employment: Hired two full time graduates from Oyo state to support the production process at our Lagos factory pending completion of farm demonstration process to understanding end use of farming project. Hired local buying agents to procure raw cashew nut. Hired a cashew consultant as part of our feasibility study from a local university in Oyo State. We expect to hire at least 100 OYO indigenes when the full farm is up and running and even more when harvest begins as we expand processing capacity.
IGR: All our hire will pay taxes and we will also pay appropriate taxes to the state government. Other benefits include potential for Foreign Direct Investments and Technology transfer

Our CEO, Mr. Adetayo Balogun is an Entrepreneur and Engineer with degrees in Petroleum Engineering & Economics from the Colorado School of Mines (BSc/MSc) in Golden, Colorado. He has worked with various energy companies spending the last 11+ years at Shell across Exploration, Development and Production operations. He has worked globally in Engineering, Business Planning and Advisory and well as with senior leadership to develop and implement key strategic initiatives. Adetayo has significant experience in New Business Development, Strategy Advisory, Commercial Evaluations, Project & Risk management. Adetayo is also involved with several other diverse ventures including an Educational leadership foundation and also has board representation experience.

Ms. Abimbola Balogun is the General Manager of The M & W Nuts Company. She has over 7 years’ experience in General Administration, Human Resource, Sales, Customer Service and Facility Management. She obtained a First Class B.Sc. in Business Administration from the American University of Nigeria, Yola and is a Graduate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) as well as a student member of Chartered Institute of Personnel Managers (CIPM).
